TYPE OF MATERIAL
The WEBAC Flexcoat/Flexcast System is a high tech polyurethane coating combining excellent strength with outstanding flexibility. The solvent free formula product can be mixed with fillers for extra thickness and to lower the cost per unit. The material is spread to achieve a self-leveling and fast curing waterproofing base membrane or to fill joints, voids and cracks. Selected rubber texture granules and/or sand may be broadcast on the not yet completely cured surface. A final seal coat of moisture-cured aliphatic or aromatic urethane color coat is applied.
WEBAC Flexcoat and WEBAC Flexcast are related materials based on the same technology and vary in strength, hardness and elongation properties.
Flexcoat permits movement,
stretching with moving cracks and joints.
RANGE OF APPLICATION
The Flexcoat/Flexcast System, called for short the F/F System is designed for rapidly applied and fast cure installations over prepared surfaces. The product can be used as a specialty membrane (Flexcoat) but also offers significant void and joint filling capabilities with extreme elongation properties (Flexcast). The unique acceptance of the product to additives such as sand and quartz fillers combined with fast cure features allow for installations of any desired thickness under a wide range of weather conditions. The WEBAC F/F System is designed to create seamless, flexible, durable, slip resistant, decorative, protective and highly waterproof membranes on (1) exterior pedestrian traffic surfaces such as balconies, walkways, patios, stairways, sidewalks, etc.; (2) interior surfaces such as mechanical room floors, work areas, shower pans and stalls, display floors, etc.; (3) on boat and ship decks made of metal, wood and fiberglass; (4) vehicular traffic areas such as rooftop parking decks and ramps made of concrete or asphalt, etc.; (5) exterior wooden and concrete sun deck areas such as pool surrounds, ski lodge sun-decks, rooftop play areas, etc.; (6) equestrian and animal habitats such as stalls, wash racks, kennel runs hot-walkers, etc.; (7) athletic surfaces etc.
The material can be used to seal, fill and cast into cracks, voids, joints and control joints. It can be applied as a mortar to level out imperfections in surfaces at various thicknesses. New applications are being researched and devised on a continuing basis. We invite inquiries about problem surfaces where WEBAC F/F System can provide an innovative solution.
PROCESSING
General Information
WEBAC F/F is a two-component, liquid applied, polyurethane elastomeric waterproofing base membrane.
WEBAC F/F may not be diluted under any circumstances. Surfaces to be coated with WEBAC (F/F) must be dry, clean, free of foreign matter, and generally should be primed with WEBAC PU or epoxy primer.
Shelf Life: Six (6) months at 75F (24C) in sealed, unopened containers. Color: Grey
Packaging: WEBAC F/F is available in four gallon A and one gallon B containers. The A container is of 5 gal volume to accept the B side for mixing purposes.
Primers are available in 1 or 5 gallon containers. Rubber granules are available in 50 pound bags.
This data sheet and the Material Safety Data Sheets have to be read completely and understood by the user of the product.
Preparation of Substrates
All Surfaces to receive WEBAC F/F mus meet all applicable building and safety codes in the prescribed city, county or state. Substrate must be structurally sound and sloped for proper drainage. No liability is assumed by WEBAC for substrate defects!
Successful bonding requires structurally sound, strong, and clean substrates. The substrate must be cleaned to ensure that it is free of all oils, laitances, greases and other contaminations. Adhesives, sealing membranes, etc., should not be applied until the surface is dry.
Application of Membrane
Before application, mix WEBAC F/F thoroughly by hand or using a mechanical mixer (Jiffy Mixer) at slow speeds at the correct ratio of 4:1 A:B parts by volume. A filler material such as sand, quartz sand or rubber granules may be used. This rapid setting liquid is spread at any desired thickness onto the prepared and primed surface.
For best results apply with a squeegee or notched trowel to spread material on properly cleaned, prepared, graded, flashed, and primed dry substrates. Application of the WEBAC F/F System should be done in one complete step to create a smooth uniform self leveling surface without cold joints, lines or streaks.
If desired broadcast EPOM rubber granules immediately into the newly created wet membrane or broadcast a #1 or #2 graded washed dry sand (20 mesh, 6.5 Mohs minimum hardness) after the membrane has set long enough so the sand does not sink, covering it completely to provide a slip resistant surface. Allow to cure 2 to 4 hours or until stiff enough to support weight before collecting surplus broadcasting material and applying the colorcoat, tile or other surface coating. Note: Curing time depends on humidity and temperature. Low temperature and low humidity retards the curing time.
Equipment Cleanup: Equipment should be cleaned with environmentally-safe solvent as permitted under local regulations immediately after use.
WEBAC Rubber Granules
While the surface is still wet and receptive, an excess of rubber texture granules or sand may be broadcast onto and into the surface to create the desired slip-resistant surface texture. After the membrane has cured to accept foot traffic, all granules not bonded shall be removed and the surface is top coated.
Supplied by WEBAC or approved sources. Rubber granules are selected to add to the base membrane integrity and improve surface texture characteristics to achieve nonskid characteristics. Rubber granules range in size from 40 mesh through 3/16 inch diameter. They are sometimes stringy and come in various degrees of hardness and flexibility. Clean tire-tread grindings, tennis-ball and handball bladder grindings, EPDM and SBR rubber grindings may be applied to achieve different end uses of the membrane.
WEBAC Primers and TopCoats
WEBAC solvent-free and odorless PU primer is recommended to assure a positive and durable bond to all properly prepared substrates. Epoxy based primer may add a better adhesion on some more critical surfaces such as metal.
The WEBAC F/F System may be finished with a topcoat or colorcoat. A variety of aliphatic and aromatic single-component, moisture-cured urethane rubber colorcoats are available for various requirements. They are of high solids and flexible, with excellent resistance to abrasion. Standard colorcoats are available in Light Tan, Dark Tan, Light Grey, Medium Grey, Dark Grey, Chocolate, and White. Special colors can be formulated subject to minimum quantity and additional tinting costs.
The final texture and appearance of the WEBAC F/F System varies, depending on the texture granules and colorcoat used.
HOW TO APPLY HINTS
Concrete Patching
Repairs to old or new concrete may be necessary to remove minor imperfections such as: ridges, sharp projections, pits, holes and low spots. All imperfections should be filled with the SAND SLURRY mix. Take 1 part of ready to use WEBAC Flexcoat and add one up to three parts clean sand to the material and mix thoroughly until you get a stiff slurry as needed. This mixture may have the WEBAC Flexcast applied on top when the SAND SLURRY has hardened enough to step on without denting (approx. 1 hour depending on weather conditions.)
Concrete should be cured a minimum of twenty-eight (28) days with water or sodium silicate based cure only. Concrete shall be visibly dry and pass sixteen (16) hour ASTM D-4263 test (4 mil or 102 microns polyethylene mat test) with no condensation prior to the application of WEBAC F/F. Concrete shall have a minimum of 4000 psi (281 kg/cm2) compressive strength. AII surfaces shall be completed, clean, and free from structural defects prior to coating application. If this system must be applied prior to the suggested 28 days consult with WEBAC technical support. Surface must be primed with WEBAC primer prior to WEBAC F/F application.
Plywood surface
Plywood shall conform to U.S. Products Standard PS 1-66 or better. Interior grades, including those with exterior glue, may cause bonding problems. Non-roof and roof decks shall be APA Exterior A-C or better. Plywood surface shall be clean, dry, sound, free of voids and protected from moisture and oxidation which may raise surface grain, cause checking or interfere with WEBAC F/F adhesion. Plywood must be smooth, sanded, blocked, or tongue and groove, and a minimum of three quarter inch (3/4" or 2cm) thick. Plywood should be installed with a maximum of 1/8" or 30mm space between the plywood sheets and laid over joists on 16 inch or 40cm centers. Plywood sheets must be nailed down securely with coated annular ring or screw shank nails. The deck shall be designed to slope 1/4' or 6mm to the foot (30cm). Damaged panels must be repaired or replaced prior to WEBAC F/F application. Surface must be free of all varnishes, water-repellant coatings, paints, protective sealers, hot mops, dust particles, oils, greases or any other foreign matter which will impair bonding of WEBAC F/F. Surface must be free of all projections and depressions. Cracks, joints at different levels, or expansion details must be prepared by inserting a backer rod, if necessary, and caulking with a thickened mixture of WEBAC F/F. Surface may be primed with WEBAC primer prior to WEBAC F/F application. Flashing should have a bonderized finish or be roughened with sand paper. All flashing should be installed in accordance with the accepted waterproofing techniques and government building codes. Flashing must be nailed (annular coated ring nails) down flat and true, no buckling. At all abutments and projections through the system caused by parapet walls, posts, vents, pipes, railings, and similar connected rigid items, provide 0.5 inch (1cm) bead of thickened WEBAC F/F to form cove and allow to set up (gel) before applying. Metal must be free of all hot mops, oils, greases, dust particles, or any other foreign matter which will impair bonding. A rough surface will typically provide a stronger bonding surface. Flashing must be primed with WEBAC primer prior to application.
Joints, Cracks, and Flashing Reinforcement
Check area of application to ensure that it conforms to the above substrate requirements. Prime all joints, cracks, and flashings with WEBAC primer. Apply ready mixed paste of over all joints, cracks, and flashings. Bridge the joints, cracks, and flashings with 3" (7cm) polyester WEBAC tape, pushing it into the sealant with a trowel. Over 3" (7cm) polyester WEBAC tape apply a thin coat of WEBAC F/F and smooth onto adjacent surface. Allow thickened WEBAC F/F to cure for 30 to 60 minutes (depending on the weather conditions).
MAINTENANCE
If WEBAC F/F is damaged, it can be repaired by first abrading the surface six inches 6" (15cm) around the damaged area. The surface should then be cleaned with an environmentally-safe solvent (as permitted under local regulations) to ensure that the surface is free of all dust particles, oils, greases, or any other foreign matter that will impair bonding of WEBAC F/F. Allow the area to completely dry before priming the surface with WEBAC primer and reapplying WEBAC F/F.
PRECAUTIONS
Polyurethanes and solvents may cause health problems if used without adequate ventilation or fresh air respiration, so precautions must be taken to protect all occupants on the job site during installation. The uncured components of WEBAC F/F can cause irritation to the eyes, skin, mucous membranes, and is harmful if swallowed. When handling avoid contact with eyes and skin. In case of contact, immediately wash off with plenty of water for at least fifteen (15) minutes. For eyes, obtain medical attention. Always wash hands before eating.
